DEFIBRILLATOR GOES INTO HIDING
For the moment, Defib is in hiatus mode. Joby is currently in New York working with the infamous Wooster Group. Sam is stranded on the edges of the Sahara Desert in Burkina Faso with a Fulbright grant to study traditional masked dances.
So... who knows where when and how Defibrillator will rise again.
STAY TUNED...
-THE MISSION-
defibrillator productions creates and promotes work that electrifies the total theatrical experience by fusing art forms, breathing life into technology and igniting experimentation in performance.
-THE HISTORY-
since 2000, defib has created some of seattle's most exciting and innovative theatre. using video, puppetry, dance, animation, site-specific staging, and much more, defib has created a distinct and dynamic aesthetic. our successes include original adaptations from greek myths to the bible to kafka, as well as established works by such avant-garde luminaries as heiner muller, samuel beckett, and maria irene fornes. meanwhile, we've won two consecutive seattle fringe festival artistic pick awards, and have been praised by the local press as one of seattle's hottest young theatre companies.
-THE SEASON-
DEFIB LABORATORIES (may 2004)
five ensembles of seattle-based artists are assigned a unique space and then given one month and a provocative set of rules and restrictions within which to make an original performance. the result is an evening of daring creativity, as five groups premiere five bold new works based on a highly unconventional theatrical space.
VETALA (august 2004)
an experimental asian-immersion performance project that explores and synthesizes numerous traditions (from kathakli to karaoke, from balinese dance to bollywood) to tell a 1,000 year old sanskrit tale of a king's confrontation with an animated corpse.
NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND (november 2004)
an original adaptation of dostoevskys revolutionary novel twists a Pioneer Square loft into a surreal winter wasteland, where the underground man journeys to complete alienation and self-destruction amidst a flurry of shredded paper, cloying office bonding exercises, and tons of vodka!!!
